Silva Labs is Hiring

    The Silva Lab is hiring Agroecology and Organic Agriculture Summer Field Research Assistants for the 2026 field season. This position is a great fit for students interested in organic row-crop production and hands-on agricultural research. Our farmer-focused work explores practical, sustainable strategies to reduce tillage in organic systems. Our research assistants will play an essential role in carrying out fieldwork, data collection, and sample processing throughout the summer.

    As a member of our team, you’ll gain meaningful research experience, build confidence in the field, and develop practical skills in an organic agricultural setting. We’re looking for curious, motivated students who enjoy hands-on work, teamwork, and contributing to research that supports organic farmers.

    Position: Agroecology and Organic Agriculture Summer Field Research Assistants

    • Hours: 30-40 hours/week
    • Compensation: Starting at $18/hour
    • Dates: May 11th, 2026 – August 28th, 2026 (flexible)
    • This position can also serve as a PLPATH 499 internship.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help establish field research experiments and complete protocol-driven data collection and sample processing, including soil sampling, biomass collection, scouting, and weed identification.

    Desirable Skills/Abilities:

    • Interest or experience in agriculture, plant sciences, plant pathology, entomology, environmental sciences, or related agronomy fields.
    • Ability to work outdoors in variable field conditions while performing physical tasks (crouching/kneeling for extended periods of time, navigating uneven terrain, using hand tools in dense foliage).
    • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must have a valid US driver’s license with a minimum of two years licensed driving experience.
