POSITION: Harvest Lead

COMPENSATION: $20-$24/hour depending on experience

Farm Overview:
Cellanie Farms is a 140-acre, organic-in-transition, reduced-tillage market farm located 5 miles north of Madison in the Town of Westport, WI. We have built a regenerative, tractor-scale, diversified vegetable farm and perennial fruit orchard on approximately 30 acres. We offer weekly produce shares and attend farmers markets throughout the growing season.
Cellanie’s mission is to re-connect individuals to their food, and the land from which that food is grown. We intend to be good stewards of the land while producing nutrient-dense, delicious food for our local community. Job Summary:
The harvest lead will be an integral part of Cellanie’s team and will be relied upon for knowledge, leadership, and strong partnership. As the business grows, and with demonstrated proficiency by the candidate, there will be opportunities for career advancement into roles of increasing responsibility. The harvest lead will participate in all aspects of growing produce, while also being responsible for teaching harvest procedures and maintaining standards of harvested produce, including washing and storing. This is a great position for someone with multiple years of experience working on a produce farm.
- The ideal start date is between mid-March and early April with steady work anticipated through October 2026.
- 40 hours per week.
- Monday – Friday 8am-4pm.
- Weekend work available depending on farmers market schedule and interest in working markets (not required).
Responsibilities:
- Supervise harvesting and washing of produce.
- Ensure safe handling practices and protocols are being followed, per Food Safety Plan.
- Ability to train and oversee new staff in the process of harvesting and bunching or packaging produce.
- Support produce production including planting, seeding and weeding.
- Help prep for weekly farmers markets, including packing the van with required quantities of quality produce.
- Provide support for Sr. Lead Facilities and Fulfillment in helping maintain produce coolers.
- Assist in weekly planning and prep for deliveries.
- Manage wash/pack records and maintain accurate logs.
- Deep clean and maintain pack shed per Food Safety Plan.
- Follow SOPs and work with management on meeting farm production goals.
- Assist in apple orchard tasks such as thinning, weeding, trellising, and harvesting during downtime of annual produce production.
Qualifications/Ideal Candidate:
- 2+ years of experience on specialty crop produce farm a must.
- Hard worker with ability to work consistently to meet performance expectations.
- Deep understanding of food safety practices, and the USDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
- Experience using electronic record keeping systems for production numbers. Previous experience with TEND.com a plus.
- Dependable work ethic and willingness to support other job functions based on need.
- Reliable and flexible with a can-do attitude. Ability to work on a small team and follow directions well.
- Desire to farm organically and not afraid to get hands dirty.
- Communicate clearly and frequently with team.
- Able to work outdoors under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical farm tasks with reasonable accommodations including the ability to lift 50lbs.

Compensation:
Competitive wage between $20-$24/hour depending on experience.
